About Umi Yoga Studio
Umi Yoga Studio is a small bilingual yoga studio at 25 An Thượng 38 in the Mỹ An beach area of Da Nang. It runs four open group sessions from Monday to Friday and offers private instruction by appointment on weekdays or weekends. Published formats include Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, Yin, prenatal yoga, meditation, breathwork and personalised programmes.
A small studio near the beach
Umi is positioned for residents, digital nomads and visitors who want a class close to the An Thượng and Mỹ Khê accommodation areas. The studio describes its groups as small and open to all levels, with complete beginners welcome. Classes are taught in English and Vietnamese, making the practical instructions more accessible to international students than at a Vietnamese-only neighbourhood class.
The website is also available in Russian, Korean and Chinese, but those translations do not mean that classes are taught in those languages. If English or Vietnamese is not comfortable enough for safety cues, ask whether an interpreter, bilingual companion or suitable private arrangement is possible before booking.
Understanding the weekday timetable
Open group classes run Monday to Friday at 06:00–07:00, 08:00–09:00, 17:00–18:00 and 18:30–19:30. Weekend entries on the published timetable are private classes rather than public drop-ins. The studio asks students to reserve through WhatsApp, so the timetable should not be treated as unconditional walk-in availability.
Ask which style will be taught in the chosen slot, who is leading it and whether the class remains scheduled. A timetable may show the same four times each day while the practice content changes. Arrive early enough to explain injuries and settle without disturbing a class that has begun; the studio's policy explicitly asks students to be punctual.
Hatha, Vinyasa and Yin are different experiences
Hatha yoga generally provides a steadier pace and more time to establish each posture. Umi presents it as a suitable starting point for beginners. Vinyasa Flow links movement with breathing and may feel more continuous or demanding. Yin yoga uses longer, quieter holds and a lower level of active muscular effort, although long holds can still be intense for joints or irritated tissues.
Do not select a style solely from its name. Ask about pace, room temperature, weight-bearing on wrists, kneeling, inversions and the length of floor holds. A beginner-friendly label does not guarantee that every movement suits every body. Use a gentler variation or rest whenever needed rather than trying to match a more experienced neighbour.
What a first-time student can expect
The studio says no previous yoga experience or baseline flexibility is required. Mats and props are supplied, so visitors only need comfortable clothing and water. A teacher can offer variations in a small class, but the student still needs to communicate limitations. Tell the instructor before class about pain, recent surgery, dizziness, balance problems, pregnancy or a health condition that may affect exertion.
Start conservatively. Sharp pain, numbness, tingling, faintness, chest discomfort or unusual breathlessness are reasons to stop, not sensations to push through. Hands-on adjustments should occur only with consent; tell the teacher if verbal instruction is preferred. Avoid comparing range of motion with other students, especially after a long flight, illness or a break from exercise.
Private classes and personalised programmes
Private sessions are available by appointment and can use Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin, prenatal, meditation or breathwork elements. One-to-one instruction can be useful for someone who wants a quieter introduction, schedule flexibility or closer explanation of alignment. It can also suit a couple or traveller who cannot attend a weekday group slot, provided the studio confirms the format and price.
A personalised yoga programme remains fitness or wellbeing instruction, not clinical rehabilitation. If movement is restricted by an undiagnosed injury, postoperative protocol, neurological condition or persistent pain, obtain appropriate medical or physiotherapy guidance first. Give the teacher any restrictions in writing and ask how the session will avoid or adapt them.
Prenatal yoga needs individual screening
Umi lists prenatal yoga among its private-class options. Before booking, give the current week of pregnancy, previous yoga experience and any restrictions from the maternity clinician. Ask whether the teacher assigned to the session has specific prenatal training and whether the class is private or shared with students at different stages.
Pregnancy is not a time to chase deeper stretches, strong abdominal compression, overheating or breath retention. Bleeding, fluid loss, painful contractions, severe headache, chest pain, faintness, calf pain or reduced fetal movement require medical advice rather than a yoga modification. Postnatal return should also follow individual clinical guidance after delivery, particularly after a caesarean section or complication.
Meditation and breathwork without exaggerated promises
Meditation and breathwork are available within private sessions. They may provide a structured opportunity to slow down and focus attention, but they are not substitutes for mental-health care, respiratory treatment or management of a cardiovascular condition. Ask what breathing technique is planned, whether it includes rapid cycles, long retentions or repeated deep breathing, and choose a gentler approach when unsure.
Stop if breathwork causes dizziness, tingling, panic, chest discomfort or visual changes. Anyone with uncontrolled blood pressure, serious heart or lung disease, epilepsy, pregnancy complications or a history of fainting should seek clinical advice before intensive breathing practices. A calm, ordinary breathing exercise is different from a demanding technique marketed for dramatic effects.
Prices and package conditions
The current published group prices are 200,000 VND for a drop-in, 1,200,000 VND for two weeks and 1,800,000 VND for one month. Private sessions are listed at 500,000 VND for one class, with ten- and twenty-session packages also available. Confirm prices when reserving because they can change.
Group packages run from the first class for the stated period. Private ten- and twenty-session packages are published without an expiry date. The studio states that packages are non-refundable, although remaining sessions or package time may be transferred to another person after notifying the studio. Short-term visitors should calculate how many weekday classes they can realistically attend before choosing a package over individual drop-ins.
Booking and communication on WhatsApp
Reservations are handled through WhatsApp at +84 855 155 468. A useful booking message gives the date, time, class type, experience level and any relevant limitation. Wait for confirmation instead of assuming that sending a message has secured a place. For a private session, ask for the teacher, duration, language and total price.
The website lists Instagram and Facebook accounts, but WhatsApp is the explicit booking route. Do not send sensitive medical documents through social messaging unless necessary and acceptable to you; a short description of restrictions is usually enough for the teacher to say whether a class can be adapted. More complex medical decisions belong with a clinician.
Heat, hydration and beach-area logistics
Da Nang's heat and humidity can make even a familiar class feel harder, particularly at the end of an outdoor day. Drink normally before class and bring water, but avoid a large meal or heavy alcohol consumption immediately beforehand. Early morning sessions may be more comfortable for heat-sensitive visitors, while evening traffic in the beach district can add travel time.
The studio is at 25 An Thượng 38, Ngũ Hành Sơn, within the Mỹ An visitor area. Use the complete street number because similarly named An Thượng roads sit close together. Confirm footwear storage, changing arrangements and valuables policy if coming directly from the beach or work; the official site verifies mats and props but does not publish showers or lockers.
When yoga is not the right next step
Yoga can support general movement, strength, balance and relaxation, but a teacher does not diagnose injuries or disease. Sudden severe pain, joint instability, progressive weakness, loss of sensation, unexplained swelling or symptoms after trauma require healthcare assessment. A person returning after surgery should follow the surgeon or physiotherapist's stage-specific restrictions.
For ordinary practice, match intensity to current capacity and tell the teacher when a pose feels wrong. Anyone comparing classes around the city can use Vietnam Clinic's guide to yoga studios in Da Nang, which focuses on teaching language, schedules, styles, props and visitor access rather than health promises.
Umi publishes open group yoga, private yoga, Hatha, Vinyasa Flow, Yin, prenatal yoga, meditation, breathwork and personalised yoga programmes. English and Vietnamese instruction, small class sizes, mats and props are included. Public group sessions are scheduled at four weekday times; private sessions require an appointment and can be arranged for weekends. Availability and exact style should be confirmed through WhatsApp before travelling.
